What Is A Comfort Food?
Literally any food that you enjoy and just makes you feel happier. Though most of the times they may not be healthy, but at least it makes you feel better after consuming it.
People usually enjoy foods that are either greasy or sweet. For instance, some of the comfort food that people enjoy are pizzas, ice creams, or chocolates (Yum!).
But why do people choose greasy and sweet foods as their comfort food...?
Scientifically, when you eat sweet foods, the the sugar/sucrose that you ate immediately goes in your bloodstream and won't take long to enter your brain. This causes your blood sugar and insulin level to increase. Sugar also increases your endorphins. And when it does, your mood would boost and be temporarily happy. According to Warrell Creations, a neurotransmitter called, dopamine, plays an important role in controlling emotional responses.
On the other hand, when you eat greasy foods, it's because of the fats that's contained in the oil. According to a research study, when the fats breaks down to smaller molecules (fatty acids) into our body, it appears that the fats negate off negative emotions a person might feel at the time. CNN had also reported that volunteers for research that were injected with saturated fat were happier than those who received simple saline solution.
Comfort food can be more than one, and one of my comfort food is home-baked cookies. I found a lot of recipes online and some in my mom's 'Cakes and Cookies' book, but I decided to just use the recipe I found on the back side of Hershey's chocolate chip package. It's enough for me to bake it twice and each time I bake it, it'll make up to 20+ cookies if you make them bite sized.
